They serve a purpose that's beneficial more often than not . If you don't know which Alien group implanted them, you don't know the consequences of removal, and they may well be implanted again. If it's implanted in your skull cavity next time around, you may not find it so pleasant even though it may not hurt. Don't fear the unknown when you are not harmed. Instead, fear your government's dealings with Extraterrestrials not sympathetic to humans. Dealings for which a certain super power or two are selling their souls and bargaining your life and freedom in exchange for evil or undesireable concessions.
