Dear Roger, just to clarify the role of state security services in suppressing the UFO/crop circle phenomenon, and the complicity of large media organizations such as Wikipedia:
the leading crop circle faker John Lundberg (and his Circlemakers) have “taken credit” for hundreds of unexplained crop pictures, for example the spectacular formation which appeared at Milk Hill in August 2001, see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Lundberg or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crop_circle
Yet from at least 1999 to 2001, in the early days of the Internet when funding was scarce, those crop circle fakers were receiving advertising revenue from British Military Intelligence group MI5, and openly posted recruitment ads for that spy agency on their “New Documents” page!
Hey, who do they represent? And why would anyone believe in what they have to say, unless you were incredibly stupid? Yet their long-term cover-up seems to have worked. They know human psychology well.
